On January 27, 2026, a meeting of the Academic Council of JSC “Institute for Transport Economics and Development” (IEDT) was held, dedicated to the development of methods for assessing the transportation of bulk railway freight and the sustainability of transport companies, taking into account a scientific approach to coordinating the interests of participants in commercial transactions.
The meeting featured the following scientific presentations:
▪️ Managing the efficiency of bulk freight rail transportation through adaptation and modernization of rolling stock under economic constraints.
The report was delivered by researchers from the Department of Economics and Management in Transport, Institute of Economics and Finance, Russian University of Transport (MIIT): N. P. Tereshina (Doctor of Economics, Professor) and V. V. Zhakov (Candidate of Economics, Associate Professor).
▪️ Economic justification of methods for forecasting bulk freight rail transportation at the regional level.
A report presenting a new approach to assessing the prospective freight base with consideration of risks related to foreign trade restrictions was delivered by E. V. Dmitrieva, Head of the Sector for Logistic Interaction of Various Modes of Transport at IEDT.
▪️ Formation of mechanisms for sustainable development of transport organizations based on the coordination of economic interests in contractual relations.
An economic model and recommendations for aligning the interests of transport organizations and their partners based on the assessment of contractual relations were presented by the authors’ team: V. V. Vasilchev (Acting Director of the Institute of International Transport Communications, RUT (MIIT)) and A. T. Romanova (Doctor of Economics, Chief Researcher at IEDT).
During the meeting, with the participation of invited representatives of JSC “Russian Railways” and the scientific and expert community, constructive discussions were held on the prospects for practical application and further development of the presented research outcomes.
