Preparation of prospects of freight transportation development
Development of medium- and long-term forecasts of the volume of freight traffic by rail and the structure of the freight base with the development of the routes of car traffic volumes in the future, as well as the review and forecast of the amount of freight train traffic and the distribution of freight traffic flows by direction and cargo nomenclature.

Preparation of forecasts for the development of freight traffic volumes
Forecasting freight traffic volumes is an important management task in determining strategic plans for the development of transport infrastructure. IEDT JSC builds medium- and long-term forecasts of the freight base with a depth of detail that allows substantiating decisions on the need for developing the railway network, its individual domains, directions, sections, hubs and stations.
In order to reduce the uncertainty of the forecast, increase its reliability and verification, estimations in IEDT JSC are carried out with consideration of the maximum number of factors affecting the development of freight traffic volumes using up-to-date methods of economic and mathematical simulation.
This area includes the following activities:
- Monitoring and factor analysis of changes in the transport services market
- Determination of freight base capacity based on forecasts of development of economy and industry, production enterprises and transport infrastructure, changes in market conditions

Development of passenger transportation prospects
One of the core activities of IEDT JSC includes determination of parameters of the passenger complex operations on the railway transport in the medium and long term. A forecast of future passenger traffic volume is made and the amount of passenger train traffic and the required measures related to passenger infrastructure on the railroad network of RZD JSCo are determined on the basis of indicators of the areas of interest development and the market conditions of passenger transportation by rail and alternative modes of transport. In order to determine the prospective parameters of passenger traffic, regression correlation and econometric models are build to forecast the volume of long-distance and commuting passenger traffic.
This area includes the following activities:
- Estimates of passenger throughput and passenger turnover in long-distance and commuting traffic, including estimate for the network as a whole and additional details for domains, transport hubs and individual stations
- Determination of the transport balance at major destinations and evaluation of the induced demand for passenger transportation generated due to the launch of new products on the railway transport
- Estimates of prospective long-distance and commuting train traffic, taking into account the urban development of territories and points of origination and absorption of passenger traffic, as well as evaluation of the required rolling stock fleet
- Determining the prospective configuration of commuting train routes in major transportation hubs
- Estimates of target parameters of high-speed and ultra-high-speed projects (prospective traffic volumes, traffic amount, travel time, rolling stock parameters)

A prospective traction service technology and estimates of the required traction rolling stock (by type of traction, type of current, required capacity, locomotive sectionalizing) to ensure prospective traffic volumes in freight and passenger traffic. Determination of the development needs for locomotive repair linear enterprises.

Further to independent evaluation of the efficiency of projects, specialists of IEDT JSC can conduct expert evaluation of investment and innovative projects and programs.
