In September this year, the Scientific Library publishing house released the book Transport Maps, a translation of the corresponding section from the renowned monograph Die Kartenwissenschaft (The Science of Maps) by German scholar Max Eckert, which a century ago laid the foundation for cartography as an independent scientific discipline.
The author of the extensive introductory article, numerous commentaries, and the editor of this publication is our colleague — Yaroslav Yurievich Chibryakov, Ph.D. in Engineering, Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Research Support of the Institute for Transport Economics and Development (IEDT). This work continues his professional and research activity in the field of transport cartography at IEDT, which he has pursued since 2001.
The issues discussed in the book — including the generalization of transport maps, cartographic representation of the “transport landscape,” and others — remain highly relevant and continue to attract great interest within the professional community. The publication is intended for researchers and practitioners in transport geography and cartography and may also be of value to students and postgraduates.
