From November 13 to 15, 2024, Astrakhan hosted the 2nd Astrakhan International Forum “North-South ITC: New Horizons.”
Alexey Anatolyevich Zamkovoy, Deputy General Director of the Institute for Transport Economics and Development (IEDT), participated in the forum with a presentation during the session “Proposals from Logistics Companies in Russia, Iran, CIS Countries, Asia, and Africa.”
The session's participants discussed the current opportunities and constraints of the “North-South” International Transport Corridor (ITC), including the capacity of railway infrastructure, border crossings, Iranian ports, and terminal and warehouse complexes.
In his presentation, “Prospects for the Development of and the Role of Railway Infrastructure in the North-South ITC for Ensuring Russia’s Foreign Trade Cargo Transportation,” Alexey Zamkovoy highlighted the significance of developing international transport corridors under current geopolitical conditions and addressed:
The transformation of Russia's export geography;
Assessments of the cargo base for the “North-South” ITC;
Necessary measures to develop the railway infrastructure of the corridor to accommodate potential freight volumes.
The forum also included discussions on the demand for Russian goods within the North-South ITC region, the implementation of new international projects involving Russian regions, financial mechanisms for cross-border payments, and cargo insurance.
Representatives from over 300 companies across Russia, the CIS, the Middle East, South Asia, East Africa, Iran, and India participated in the forum.
