On July 17, 2025, a meeting of the Joint Academic Council of Russian Railways (RZD) was held to discuss the scientific evaluation of technical and technological solutions aimed at accelerating transport flows through digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

The report titled "Application of AI Technologies in Developing Recommendations for the Expansion of Russian Railways’ Network to Accelerate Transport Flows" was delivered by Vitaly Vladimirovich Panin, Cand. of Eng. Sc., Deputy General Director of the Institute for Transport Economics and Development.

In his presentation, Vitaly Panin outlined a systematic approach to integrating AI tools into the strategic planning processes for railway network development. Special emphasis was placed on the potential use of AI within the framework of the "Digital Master Plan," including algorithms for analyzing line capacity, calculating the risks of unfulfilled transport demand, scenario-based infrastructure modeling, and more.
