IEDT Presented Analysis of Petroleum Product Transportation at the “Refueling 4.0” Forum

On April 23, 2026, V.S. Bushminkin, Head of the Center for Transport Market Development at JSC “Institute for Transport Economics and Development” (IEDT), took part in the All-Russian Gas Station Forum “Refueling 4.0”, where he delivered a presentation on the transportation of petroleum products by rail.

During the presentation, it was noted that amid turbulence in the global energy market and increasing geopolitical factors, the importance of stable logistics routes is growing. At the same time, Russia maintains its position as one of the largest producers and exporters of petroleum products, while the reorientation of supplies toward eastern markets continues to gain momentum.

Despite external challenges, rail transportation of petroleum products remains stable: in Q1 2026, the volume amounted to 36 million tons. At the same time, there is a redistribution in the structure of transportation and export routes, particularly an increase in shipments toward eastern destinations amid rising demand in Asian countries.

Special attention was given to the role of railway infrastructure and port capacities in ensuring export supplies, as well as to industry development prospects, including the implementation of major investment projects, expansion of processing capacities, and improvement of logistics chains.
