As part of the comprehensive development plan for the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor, the creation of a network of dry ports is envisaged.

According to Karina Tsalikova, Head of the Department for Container Transportation and Development of Terminal and Logistics Complexes at the Institute for Transport Economics and Development, the placement of major dry ports within the integrated development of the corridor is most rational at the intersections of the Trans-Siberian Railway with inland waterways providing access to the Northern Sea Route, as well as with emerging and перспективные meridional transport and logistics corridors.

According to the expert, such key nodes include the largest cities of Siberia, the Urals, and the Far East—Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Yekaterinburg, Omsk, and Khabarovsk—where the highest concentration of cargo flows can be expected.

Another important element of the corridor will be container terminals serving the seaports of Murmansk and Arkhangelsk, Karina Tsalikova noted.

The development of a dry port network will create additional opportunities for cargo transportation along the Northern Sea Route, expand the potential of meridional transport corridors, establish additional logistics routes for Russia’s foreign trade, and enable new multimodal services using rail transport.
