What difficulties we face when launching the commuter services in the regions.
By the end of 2022, 1 billion 27.4 million passengers were transported in suburban railway communication in Russia, which is 6.8% more than the year before last.
According to Ildar Mustafin, Head of Department of the Center for Development of Suburban Passenger Transportation of the Institute of Economics and Transport Development (IEDT JSC), one of the long-term development trends of the largest agglomerations in Russia is associated with the need to integrate suburban routes into the network of urban passenger public transport.
The expert notes that the key initiative of the social and economic development strategy of the Russian Federation, which is being drafted by the working group "Aggressive Infrastructure Development" is the "Mobile City" project, aimed at upgrading the rolling stock and offloading the urban traffic in major cities of the country, which, in addition to Moscow and St. Petersburg, includes Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Krasnodar, Samara, Ufa, Ekaterinburg and Novosibirsk.
"In the period up to 2030, 14 new routes in the designated subjects of the Russian Federation are expected to be launched in phases. The positive effects of creating new routes are associated with increased mobility of the population and the growth of transportation volumes in suburban and urban areas," Ildar Mustafin said on the sidelines of the Russian Public Transport Week last year.
