Coal transportation on the Russian Railways (RZD) network in the eastern direction continues to grow but remains unprofitable for the holding. These data are presented in the analytical review “Coal on Rails” by the Institute for Transport Economics and Development (IEDT), the presentation of which took place last week at the media center of Gudok Publishing House.
Despite the cooling of the global coal market, falling prices, and increased competition, fuel exports in the eastern direction reached a historical maximum of 118.2 million tonnes (+6.1% compared to 2024). This was reported during the presentation by IEDT Director General Sergey Rumyantsev.
