On August 26, the Russian Railways Partner magazine held a business online seminar “Container Transportation: Logistics, Prices, Risks.” The event was attended by 62 people, with the seminar speakers including both specialized analysts and direct participants in the container transportation market. The theme of yet another turbulent period for the container market ran through the entire event: experts sought to identify the main trends of the current situation and look ahead by forecasting further developments.
Containers on the Railway
The seminar was opened by Roman Martyshkin, Deputy Head of the Center for Macroeconomics and International Projects at JSC “IEDT”, with an analysis of the key indicators and trends in container transportation across the Russian Railways network. In particular, the expert noted that positive dynamics in this type of transportation emerged in the second quarter of 2026. Over the first seven months, container transportation across the Russian Railways network amounted to 4.6 million TEUs, 4% higher than in the same period last year.
“If this trend continues, we can say that 2026 will be comparable to 2024 — the year with the highest volume of transportation recorded on the Russian Railways network over the past 15 years. However, the August picture indicates a risk that the dynamics may slow down in Q3–Q4 and the 2024 figures may not be reached,” R. Martyshkin commented.
