IEDT's Participation in the Development of the Feasibility Study for Container Sorting Technology

VNIIZhT is developing technologies for the use of medium-tonnage containers on the Russian Railways (RZD) network and for sorting containers en route without sorting the wagons.

The technology for sorting containers during transit without wagon sorting involves the construction of container distribution stations. These stations will not only load and unload containers for their region but also re-sort them, forming trains with cargo destined for a single address. Such a station acts as a unified reception and dispatch park, where cargo operations are performed directly on the tracks, eliminating the need for shunting.

This technology will prevent cargo, for example, destined for Kazan or Nizhny Novgorod from being sent to Moscow first. The first such distribution station could be built in Ussuriysk, where routes from all Primorye ports converge. Here, trains can be formed with cargo destined for specific regions and stations, while also accumulating shipments for delivery to seaports by rail. This will reduce both the delivery time and the overall cost of the supply chain for the end consumer.

Currently, a feasibility study for the project has been developed in collaboration with the IEDT and RUT (MIIT). Once approved by the company's management, the project can proceed to implementation.
