Russia’s container market fell by 5.4% year-on-year in January–July 2025, totaling 3.657 million TEU. Imports declined by 8% to 1.516 million TEU, while total exports rose by 6% to 1.115 million TEU. The sharpest drop was seen in domestic shipments — down 15% to 690,000 TEU, with rail transit volumes decreasing by 4% to 336,000 TEU.
Despite the decline, analysts expect the container market to remain at last year’s level due to a potential rebound in the autumn. According to forecasts from the Institute for Transport Economics and Development (IEDT), the volume of rail container traffic for the full year is projected to reach 8 million TEU, compared with 7.9 million TEU in 2024.
