According to the Institute for Transport Economics Development, the volume of cargo transportation in the Russian part of the MTK in 2020 amounted to 6.3 million tons. The estimated capacity of the corridor is up to 30 million tons of cargo per year. It allows to deliver cargo from Mumbai in India to St. Petersburg in 15 to 24 days, when the delivery via the traditional route through the Suez Canal takes from 30 to 45 days.
