City trains are expanding their network. How trains are changing life in big cities
Forecasts and scenarios for the development of railway routes in agglomerations are presented in St. Petersburg

The development of traffic in urban agglomerations until 2050 was discussed during a round table at the V International Scientific and Practical Conference “Development of Infrastructure and Logistics Technologies in Transport Systems.”

In the next 15 years, intracity traffic may cover 56.3 million people, which will amount to 40% of the Russian population.
The Institute for Transport Economics and Development (IEDT JSC) and RZD JSCo have long been involved in the development of urban electric trains. This topic was discussed at the RILLTRANS-2023 round table in St. Petersburg.

It was noted that the demand for passenger transportation will depend not only on the socio-economic parameters of the General Plan, but also on the frequency of trains, class of service, route and topology of the transport network, as well as on the number and quality of interchange hubs. In order to predict the volume of passenger traffic, IEDT, based on analysis of the rolling stock characteristics, determines the future volume of traffic based on messages and inter-district correspondence.
