The infrastructure of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) continues to develop, as evidenced by the growing cargo volumes and the launch of new projects. The construction of railway approaches to Arctic ports must be aligned with the development of the entire transport network and icebreaker support, emphasized Sergey Rumyantsev, Deputy General Director of JSC “IEDT,” during his speech at the forum. At the same time, the holding continues to work on improving access routes to the ports of Murmansk and Arkhangelsk.
The Port of Murmansk is one of the key entry points to the NSR. Currently, additional work is being completed on the Lavna–Vykhodnoy railway line (connecting Vykhodnoy station with the Lavna coal terminal) within the Murmansk transport hub. Cargo traffic through this route is expected to reach 18 million tons per year. Meanwhile, JSC “IEDT” has been collaborating with the State Corporation "Rosatom" on a project to construct a container terminal in Murmansk. This terminal could become a major hub, attracting cargo flows from the central regions of the country and serving as a key point for sending goods eastward along the NSR. "There is a concrete cargo base here, and relevant activities are underway," noted Sergey Rumyantsev.
