The route network will become wider

The prospects for railway tourism were discussed at the V International Scientific and Practical Conference “Development of Infrastructure and Logistics Technologies in Transport Systems” (RILTTRANS) in St. Petersburg.

As stated on the sidelines of the conference, specialists from the Institute for Transport Economics and Development (IEDT JSC) conducted an analysis of the market and the possibilities of railway infrastructure and formed proposals for organizing another 28 new tourist routes in the next seven years.

The algorithm for determining the feasibility of organizing tourist routes, which was developed in IEDT, includes an analysis of proposals from carriers, Russian Railways JSCo, regions, expert community, development of the tourism industry and implementation of investment projects, formation of a list of routes and their ranking taking into account the capacity of the infrastructure, the need for additional development of stations and terminals, the need for rolling stock.

IEDT proposes developing suburban railway tourism not only from Moscow and St. Petersburg, but also in the gravitational zone of such cities as Kaliningrad, Pskov, Samara, Chelyabinsk, Irkutsk, Novokuznetsk , Abakan, Vladivostok, as well as in the south of Russia. According to experts, it is advisable to extend one of the most popular routes Sochi - Gagra to Sukhum.
